Working together to pave the path to sustainable homeownership
Coming soon: Get ready to offer borrowers a new homeownership education course from Fannie Mae
Fannie Mae is committed to supporting sustainable homeownership and believes that broadening access to quality education is key to empowering the next generation of homeowners.
In order help to pave the way towards successful homeownership, we know the importance of preparing prospective borrowers early and often throughout the process. Whether it is by providing tips to save for a down payment, outlining steps to make an informed offer, or finding a reliable housing counselor for trusted guidance, we are setting out to support borrowers where they are in their homebuying journey.
Together with your help, Fannie Mae is committed to providing borrowers with access to comprehensive resources that will help them build a sustainable future. To make sure that all future homebuyers have access to quality information, we are launching our proprietary homeownership education course on this site in early January 2022, at no charge.
Be sure to check back for updates on this site.
Fannie Mae policy will be updated to permit any qualified third-party provider to meet our education requirement beginning Jan. 1, 2022. *
*Qualified third-party provider must be independent of the lender, and the homeownership education content must be aligned with National Industry Standards (NIS) or Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards.
Our policy is expanding to accept courses from any qualified third-party provider to fulfill the homeownership education requirement. As a result, we are providing more options for first-time homebuyers to gain access to the resources that will make them better informed homeowners.
The new Fannie Mae course will align with NIS for Homeownership Education for pre-purchase homeownership education content. It will also meet the education requirements of HFA Preferred™. This course is designed to provide prospective borrowers with an option to satisfy our Selling Guide’s education requirement, free of charge.
